Background
For our final portfolio project, we were each required to create a self-promotional piece. To help distinguish myself from other entry level designers, I decided my piece would showcase my analytical skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Target
- Branding firms looking to hire an entry level designer
- Projects by such firms require much research and organization, which align with my analytical skills
Concept
Categorizing a Lego collection—Classification of 144 minifigures & their interrelations
Using my collection of Lego minifigures, I demonstrate my analytical skills through:
- Organizing a mass of information
- Finding interrelations within elements
- Interpreting results
Design Process
- Sketches
- Observation & brainstorming of categories
- Data collection
- Data analysis of 9000-cell spreadsheet
- Layout & illustrations (over 140 hours in Adobe Illustrator alone)
Final Product
- 24″ x 36″ poster
- 144 (1:1 scale) + 1 illustrated minifigures
- 6 major categories, 51 subcategories, 260 interconnections
